Been here 11+ years. Love it. Still miss home though.
Off topic: How long did it take you to learn to speak Deutsch?

On Topic: IMO, 9/11 would not have happened if Bush was not elected. It is all that un-finished busines crap that daddy left Bush Jr. to take on.

VOTE..

A woman president would be a breath of fresh air, as would a minority president. Heck, someone other than 'Joe White Guy' who is a multi-millionaire and has NOTHING in common with the voting public, would be a RELIEF, and likely someone more in touch with the common man than just what happens inside the Beltway..

If 9/11 hadn't happened, G.Bush would have the LOWEST approval rating of a president to date.. Hell he was basically in hiding since he got elected, trying to let THAT whole deal blow over.. 9/11 made George Bush somewhat compentent - it gave him something to do that the great majority of the population agreed with(IE: find who did it, bring justice to them). It CERTAINLY caused him to have to function as a President of some sort (good/bad, is EACH person's opinion).

Everyone can argue till they are blue in the face, just go VOTE. You won't be changing anyones viewpoints with forum ramblings.. I get enough phone calls, junk mail, and crap on the news trying to change my opinions already......

No I do not, but that is the job of my government not me. No plan is perfect and without risk, but some action is better than none. I am sure glad that my ancestors fought in the Revolutionary War and the Civil War, and I am willing to bet at times there "plan" seemed lacking.

How do you think they are catching them? Information shared by us and them. It is being done jointly.

Okay, I will agree that we are involved somewhat but not to the levels required. It is obvious that we still have a problem here given the threat alerts. Yet we cut our own emergency services and patrol forces to save money. Does not make sense to me.

We are not doing it alone. How exactly are we "owned by some countriest" and what do you mean? I think we do what Bush proposed we do. If you harbor or support terrorists you are against us. Some countries have already laid down their weapons without a shot fired

“Practically owned” is too strong of a statement and I realized this after posting. We are issuing foreign debt to meet budget shortfalls. This money must be repaid at some point. I strongly believe that spending too much of future earnings is too dangerous and too difficult to pay back especially with the known future decline in taxpayer base. This would be a different story in the 60’s than today in my opinion. We need to make better use of our funds. I do agree with the current administration on the dollar value and idea that the value is not a serious concern now. However, playing games with debt can severely impact the value of the dollar amplifying the International debt problem.

Yes, if you harbor terrorists you are against us. But how do we truly keep track of where they are? They nailed us before and I think many underestimate this enemy. They are trenched in all around the world and I have seen enough to be concerned that they are a step ahead based on sheer numbers and the numerous reported locations.

It would be tough, but we are not doing it alone are we? Then consider the scandal in the UN right now, do we trust them? Or if it is going to be hard then I guess we should just forget it and cave in to the terrorists?

Well, I stand by my opinion that there was very little documented evidence of any significant terrorist activity in Iraq. The key is international support and we need this back. However, citizens are ready to toss out leaders that cooperates with us. We did not need to put ourselves in this position. It was purely voluntary.

And yes, I have read the 9/11 report.

I do not believe that, other than they are the run because of the war on terrorism and are being flushed out. If you have a cancer you do not sit back and let it kill you, you fight back. Are you saying we were better off with the sleeper cells being quite and asleep?

We find them. There are cells right here in the US, right now as we speak. Based upon what I know of the organization they are most dangerous when quite, and become more geared toward small-scale attacks as only a last resort when imminent threat of dismantling is apparent.

The bottom-line for me- I truly hope we are safer today and we never experience anything like the past but from reading the reports I don’t get the understanding that this is true.

You know this......I know this as does most Americans. MyHarley.....to the rest of the world, Clinton was impeached for getting a blow job. It is hard to view America from with in. Next time you are on a trip outside the U.S. (and for you that seems often) just sit and talk to some of the locals. Listen to what they say....it will astonish you, the mentality.
I've been talking to the locals for over 15 years in various countries........and never have I ever been insulted about the US and their policies......well I had one Newfoundland guy coming back from Brazil.....and one Dutchman who was just plain rude, but my compadres kicked his ass out of the club........in fact, most taxi drivers, waiters, etc. always ask me many questions about Texas and state how they wish they could live in the US. When I am in their country, I observe their customs and rituals, not my own customs and rituals, we have mutual respect for each other and the lives that we are living. I dont profess to know their government inside and out, nor do they profess to know mine. Maybe I'm innocent in the whole scheme of life when I travel, but we have a whole lot more to talk about than politics......a lot of customers are foreign living here and there sure is a long line at the Visa office to try and stay in this country.......I like my little piece of the world.......not the cynical one on how everything is wrong with this country........

I'm off tomorrow to Singapore and South Korea........have fun without me....the politics I am sure will be here upon my return........until then, I'll think about you all while sipping my drink with a little umbrella listening to the karoeke sounds of John Denver.......... [screwy] [screwy] if I run into a terrorist, know that I shot them the finger while shouting USA, USA, USA.......... [:D]

I don't think there is anything wrong with the way you see this. It should be a land of more innocence. And a lot of us like our piece of the world and threats put us on edge. The easy way out is to just move; there are free places in the world where people can enjoy a nice lifestyle, but thats giving in. Its also not bad to have people on both sides to create balance because it can help maintain what we have and as much as I say I hate the party system for it's shortcomings it does have value.

I myself, although always aware and talked about issues, have never been so troubled and "engaged" like I am now. If I did not have kids my feelings may be more subdued.
