Glad you could make it to the show.
As I mentioned earlyer, Mercedes is becoming of much better quality. While this might ruffle a few feathers on this forum, as far as this years line up Mercedes is above all others. That said, BMW does have one notably good car wich is the 330ci. It was flawlessly designed and takes attention. I have always been a fan of Mercedes and rilly only reciently became a fan of BMW when I was shopping for my first car. Mercedes may not be the funnest to drive but by the looks of it that will all change. One other thing I noticed with Mercedes is that price matters, the new SL was of much better build quality of any Mercedes I have ever seen.
SUV talk, I (well my dads) own a 2002 MDX and it is great. The X5 and ML have some catching up to do. Now even after we bought it we still compared it to other new models when they came out. These include the Touareg (VW) Canyon (porshe) FX (Infiniti) and at the show the SRX (Cadillac). Last year (2003) the FX offered several addtional comforts and features over the MDX, had we waited a year to purchase our car that is what we would have bought (FX45). Now (2004) the Cadillac is the best, offering the best of everything at a reasonable price. One option for the Cadillac is the Sun roof wich covers the first 2 rows, no screens to block out sun when you dont want it At a touch of a button the electroids on the glass charge and block all light, very cool. If you get the optional 3rd row seat you can purchase a solid glass (does not open) wich will cover that area, this gives you a panoramic glass roof giving great light. While you cant go wrong with any of the ones mentioned above, Cadillac will likeley be the SUV for 2004. As far as ones to avoid, the Canyon is built on the same platform as the Turreg and the Tureg is done much better let alone cheeper. I would also suggest avoiding the Lexus RX, build quality is very poor and it has a major lack of power at the peddle. One thing I would like to note: #1,3,5 all have a folding 3rd row seat (optional making the total seating capacity 7 vs 5 on the others.
So to recap
1. Cadillac SRX
2. Infiniti FX35/45
3. Acura MDX
4. Volkswagen Touareg
5. Volvo
