(ignore this message too except bigdaddy)

I was in ohio at the air museum and saw the air show there. Gotta love the rocket-assisted C-130

lots of noise too.

If i were to be drafted, I would just enlist into the airforce or navy. I have 20/15 vision, have tolerance to stress, and am in good health, so I would do okay.

The talk was the same during Vietnam and after Vietnam.......history repeats itself........some happy, some not........but be proud..........

Actually we are in this war becuase of ONE man. Read bob woodward's book.

It doesnt effect you unless you have kids, brotheres or relatives anyways. If you were 18 getting ready to go to college like ME who still has hopes for the future to have success, you would have had a different opinion. Being drafted would ruin all chances I have of affording college (you do not get enlistment bonuses if you are drafted) and would pretty much **** up my life.

If i were drafted to fight the war in TERROR in afghanistan or whatever, then I would proudly go, but the war in iraq is a lie, and I'm not fighting for something I don't believe in for an idiot who's administration doesnt trust him. The statement about vietnam was stupid. There was already huge problems in vietnam before we stepped in, but the problems in iraq didnt begin until we went in.

Until i see that iraq was an immediate threat to the US or its allies, I will not support it. Over a year now and still nothing. Being drafted this time is not a matter of patriotism like the rest of you have been brain washed to think. Patriotism is a matter of defending the country and what the country stands for, but what our country stands for is freedom (ie constitution)... and it's pretty sad that right now, we are LESS FREE than the country we fought back in the 1700's to gain our independence from. Doh!!

BTW I'm registered to vote, be drafted, and am also card-carrying member of the ACLU (was part of a class where we wouldnt have to donate the entire $20 if we chose to do it). Honestly, it scares me to think that bush could be reelected. I think kerry is a douche bag, but I can only hope bush will not be reelected.
First, read my post and then read it again. My post does not support or support the draft. My post is in support of being American. BTW, my 18 year old nephew has been called on alert so I have a front row view of what it feels like to have a family member in the service, so do not step into my shoes unless you can wear them. I will also instruct you EPJ to not call my comments stupid, they are my opinion as your opinions are yours.

Ever heard of Starship Troopers (the Book, not the movie). If I remember correctly there was something having to 'earn' the right to vote by serving time in the military (maybe civil service too, I'm not sure - it's been at least 10 - 15 years since I've read this).

I think the ACLU does do some good work because there are some tremendous injustices that do not correspond to a “free” nation, but rather, a controlled, communistic state.

In Florida, a state with HUGE issues and tragedies for the children of the state, and a state that does not allow what could be so many good adoptions and a state with a very high child death rate.

In Florida, a termination of parental rights does not absolve child support. Yes, you heard that correctly, a parent WILIING to give a child up for adoption has no child support absolution. And the state does not want abortion; I guess just let the kids get tortured and killed off slowly as they grow up. There are some truly screwed-up laws and actions in this country that need to be changes.

I love Germany as well. I spent two years there. I know that if you lived there you are required to spend one year in the military or civil service. Would that be screwing up your life? I actually think its an alright deal. I know quite a few guys it could have helped. I don't think some of you realize how good it is to choose wheather to go into the military or not. It would suck if they called a draft but just keep in mind how good we have it right now

Yes, excellent. Notice too that it is the Dems that introduce the draft....hmmmm.
I agree, that link was pretty informative!

I don't think I would be able to be drafted. Some of the health issues my grandparents have had would probably keep me out of it anyways.

If the draft were activated to fight in afghanistan or wherever against terrorists who hate the United states, then I would enlist and kick some ass. I think they should make enlistment bonuses more appealing to young people and better finance their other expenses (like when a toilet seat was purchased for a supposive 100 dollars or how haliburton charged the government 1.3 times more per gallon of fuel than they should have.)

Then our military would be even bigger, but we don't want one that is TOO big...

May I ask how old you are epj3?

It sounds like you read about issues a lot. I don't think a lot of people know about Halliburton and everything that has gone on and the Enron connections and the billions that were taken from American families. I probably would have not known as much had I not had an "interest" in Halliburton for such a time.

Turned 18 this past January. You would be surprised as to how many younger people are into politics. It effects us just as much -- if not more (in the case of a draft) than most older people (except social security, which I pay but will never get.)

A draft is inevitable. The US can't keep up the current level of military commitment much longer. The troops are overextended, and the reservists are stretched to their limit. Listen to the latest comments from the Reserve Genneral being blamed for the Iraqi prison atrocities. She is accusing the Army of using the reservists as scape goats for the actions of the full time army intel units. The strains are really starting to show. A draft would bring in more middle class soldiers thereby making the defense more equitable. We can't support global intervention and be against drafting the troops needed to carry it out.
