I haven't fried anything yet but I have broken plenty of components. I have a VERY bad temper, and that doesn't always pan out well when I'm working on computers. Anyone who has had to deal with a cheap heaksink on an Athlon knows what a pain in the ass they can be to get off. I have smashed two AMD chips while installing them because I just get frustrated, lol.
Also, you have NO IDEA how many keyboard I have broken. I kept a lot of them in a big pile to remind myself what I'm unstable. I'll be sure to take a picture of them tomorrow As for that I have found a solution to breaking keyboards. I bought 12 of those 1984 IBM keyboard off of eBay. I absolutely LOVE these things. They are industructable. It's funny to see a brand new computer system with a keyboard that's older than I am. lol
Yeah the SCSIs are the latest generations 15,000 RPM Seagate Cheatas. Both on 18GB on each of my two main computers. They run off of adaptec 29106n SCSI U160 cards. No raid or anything - I find them to be plenty fast just they way they are
I have a few raid systems both SCSI and IDE. I have one that has both. How do you like the Cheatas? I am using the IBM Ultrastar's. You would believe how fast they are when you make a Raid Array.
LOL, I have a few of those out in my garage collecting dust. I have so much old computer junk. I have wanted to make some computer art with it. Get some show box’s and place old SCSI cards, modems, soundcards, CPU's, etc... in them and hang them on the wall or sell them. I have too much computer equipment and components.
Wireless is cool if you're just browsing the internet or something but it SUCKS for gaming. I tried using a wireless mouse for playing CS and it was disgusting. For now on I think I'll stick with USB for the mouse and PS/2 for the keyboard.
Wow that sounds like a pretty new-age motherboard. The only legacy port I use is the PS/2 for my old keyboard. I was thinking about de-soldering all the other legacy ports so the board will look a lot cleaner but I need the PS/2 port :-(
A legacy port is a port that has been around since the earliest PCs. Such ports are the serial ports, printer (parallel) port, and the PS2 ports, if your computer is REALLY old you'd have a DIN keyboard port.
I don't have any legacy ports on one of my computers. The port I would use for a local printer would be a USB port. I run a print server so I don't use one of the USB ports for printing.
Ok cool I'll IM you when I get home. Are you off from school today or what? I'm in computer class right now. The teacher is a complete idiot so this is pretty much what I do all period.
