What a horrific change of events today. My son is in the hospital with a temp. of 105.8 after Tylenol. They said it is without question the flu. I am beside myself and don’t know what to do. He is 14 months old and he and his twin sister are being adopted by my wife and I. His sister is home with me now and finally went to sleep for a bit and I now think she may have the same thing.

This was so quick, it just came out of nowhere. I tell you I don’t ever remember any flu so serious as this ever. And they both had the first vaccine and are due for the second but it looks like it does not work.

I am just praying so hard that he can overcome this battle. I just don’t know what else to do.

Thank you so much to all of you.

They just started administering antiviral medication about 20 minutes ago so they seem to be on top of it quickly. I found some information on a board and a lady there just went throught the same thing and has a lot of good things to say about how well this medication works.

I am blaming myself for not calling an ambulance right away it was just hard to imagine this could happen so fast. He was fine and then almost unresponsive in under an hour. I am so thankful this did not come on later at night while we were asleep.

My praryers go out to your son. Its nice to know that this board is like a family that all join together when in need.

Ive been hearing a lot about this flu and how the vaccanations havent been helping much. It currently hasent reached epidemic porportins yet but they said it likely will before it ends.

Man, that stinks. It's bad this year. My wife is still recovering from some form of it. She's been out of it for four days now.

I hope eveything works ok for your son. [:(]

As a parent who has been through a couple bouts of 104-105 degree temps for kids, I understand the concern and fear that goes through you at a time like that. If it's any consolation, it seems like that stuff happens less often when they are older.

my thoughts are with you guys - its good hes on the antiviral, ive seen it a bunch this year already (i am in hospitals all day), your boy will pull out well, im sure [;)]

i havent had my flu shot. but the best way to keep from contracting it is to wash hands regularly, especially after shaking with someone. ... was listening to Stern this morning, they suggested bowing like the japanese culture, i think i might take that up - i hate shaking peoples hands, yuck!

I am going back over now but he has been doing better. His eyes are still swollen shut most of the way but the intense heat rash from the fever is almost gone and his fever is hanging around 100-102. I sure was afraid that he may not pull through but things are looking better today.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers.

Sorry to hear about this Bryan. It's so difficult when they are small because they can't tell you how they feel, where it hurts, etc. My girls are teens now but I remember all too well... Don't be too hard on yourself - this outbreak is just hitting kids fast and hard.

I too will be thinking about you and your family in my prayers.

I am so sorry to hear about your son. I had the flu last week and had a temp of 103 for three days on Tylenol, so I know what your son is going through. He's a strong kid and I am sure he will be ok. Keep us posted as to how he is recovering.

My best wishes are with you and your family.

Thank you everyone!

He is doing much better and although still very sick he is at home and trying to walk around a little. This has been one of the scariest things I have ever experienced. It is complicated by having little medical history because he and his sister were abandoned at birth and the initial medical evaluation gave them little chance for survival. They have come a long way though and are very healthy from what all testing has shown and what we have observed over the past year but there is still that unknown element.

This stuff is so nasty and you would think that all the precautions would have prevented this but somewhere along the course of daily living there was an exposure somewhere.
