Just about anything he comes across? We all have a different view which is fine. My only statement was that I can see the MB Kompresser taking this car. The assumption is that it was not turbo, if we do that we then need to compare the AMG model MB with 350 HP and my opinion would stay the same. My original statement was “not so great” about the Z, again thinking that the race was the 220 HP non-turbo Z. Nice car-yes. [/B]
MB Kompresser taking which car? "Just about anything he comes across" I am talking about a friends twin turbo 240z, not the riced out 300z he raced.

Car and Driver has 280 and 300hp listed. Coulda sworn it was 300 tho cuz I remember only the RX-7 was under 300 out of the 4 big Jap sports cars.

Edmunds has it at 300 too.

Not that it matters all that much. Ha, finally tracked down teh 0-60 of a n/a Z. 6.8 seconds. That's a good kill for the Benz.
I think the assumption was that it was NOT the turbo, thus a much lower HP, The turbo would clearly win against the MB Kompressor and this thread would have not started. I then was thinking that if we assume the Z was turbo, then lets also assume the MB was AMG with 350 HP because that is what it would take. (AMG 0-60 5.4 13.3 at 105.4 MPH)

The MB Kompressor taking the NON-Turbo Z, not the turbo Z, and under the conditions stated. As I said, the non-turbo Z is sitting just outside my office, with 60,000 original miles and a newly rebilt engine. Based on my experience I am just not that impressed, sorry for that. And I do not, and nor does the owner of the Z, feel that it is on the level with my car or a number of others here. That is not to say that it is not a nice car, it has been garaged with a blown engine for 5 year and only has 60,000 miles on it. I am sure any number of us would take it home if the price was right. I would just be careful who I race because I just dont think it is that fast and I just cant get past the fact that in terms of power it is much like the V-6 Accord that is also here.

[:)] No need to be sorry. I am taking this thread as good conversation and not as an argument. [:D] I agree a non-turbo 300ZX is not the same level as our BMW's, however my original statement was intended to make aware the Z line of cars were/are nice automobiles in their days (I prefer the older 240,280 Z's). You have to take into count the time produced. To compare a stock car from the 70's, 80's, early 90's to newer MB, Porsche, BMW's, etc... is not a fare comparison while taking technology in to count (IMO). Granted there are some older non-modded cars that can compete with some of today’s newer sport/GT's, but the list would be long and comparisons time consuming. IMO, as long as you love your car and find it fun to drive that is all that should matter, whether someone else’s car is faster than mine; so be it. If I want a car that can smoke just about anything I should save my hard earned cash and go buy it (save some for insurance). Then I wouldn't need to worry about who pulled up next to me, head games commencing, and wonder if I have what it takes to blow him into tomorrow. Then again, I don't have to worry, because I rarely put my car to those kinds of extremes from drag racing.

P.S. I have occasionally dropped the hammer on some fool with a "riced out" import just to show them what BMW is all about. I could never understand someone taking a economy sedan/coupe (not costing very much) and spending bookoo's of money for mods, upgrades, etc.., and thinking it is da shit. Save your money and buy something that will last, has class, and as an added bonus some performance exceeding anything your mods could make that import into. On the flip side some of the clean looking modded imports are nice as long as they stay away from the fart cans, huge wings, wild paint, ridiculous neon lighting, etc...
