porsche? frolf, i heard you calling for me????
well, i drove a 1987 3.2l 911 carrera. 231 hp. rear mounted engine, air cooled, no ABS or PSM (porsches name for ESP)
it was amazing. we needed approx. 10 miles to get the oil warm enough to start getting serious. we drove on a hilly road, no freeway or similar. curvs turns, only two lanes, one side each direction. we were alone. dry pavement, warm outside. my co, the former owner, knew the road and told me the speeds. it was amazing how that car took off and what an incredible sound it produced. the boxer just kicks ass. back to the driveing experience. the car has glue under the tires when treated correctly. i have pushed the bimmer several times, but the porsche is way more nervous and by far not as forgiving. in fact that car is like a lady. treat her good and she gives you the ride of your life. treat her wrong and bang you're out. she's fancy, smart, beautiful, has a wonderful voice and a shape of body that makes you whisper in her presence.....
well, the key thing to drive a 911 is knowing how to brake and when to brake. for starting never try breaking into the turn. you'll spin out quicker than you could imagine. in a turn, especially with higher speeds and less tight radius, don't step of the gaz. if you have to, very slow and prepare yourself for a loose rear end. i did it once too fast, almost at least. my co afterwards said he already saw us spinning. somehow i di not notice it that bad, i felt the tail getting light but not that bad. well he knows his car and when he says so, i was just lucky.
with the newer 911 that problem got more and more solved. the 964 still were "heckschleudern" while a 993 almost became unspinnable in normal conditions. todays 996 and upcoming 997 have all security features to keep everyone on track.
all in all, i will always go with a 993 c4 or 993 4s. sure, a turbo would be nice but me, as a realistic man
, i know i might not be able to afford one.
frolf, you got a tissue for me please????
