I think I've seen this before but I'll download it anyways. My friend's father owns the second-largest Volkswagen/Subaru dealership in the Northern US. He's thinking about adding Porsche to it, and if this happens then I'm going to beg to test drive a 911 Turbo (gotta aim high), who knows my dream may come true.

porsche? frolf, i heard you calling for me???? [thumb]

well, i drove a 1987 3.2l 911 carrera. 231 hp. rear mounted engine, air cooled, no ABS or PSM (porsches name for ESP)
it was amazing. we needed approx. 10 miles to get the oil warm enough to start getting serious. we drove on a hilly road, no freeway or similar. curvs turns, only two lanes, one side each direction. we were alone. dry pavement, warm outside. my co, the former owner, knew the road and told me the speeds. it was amazing how that car took off and what an incredible sound it produced. the boxer just kicks ass. back to the driveing experience. the car has glue under the tires when treated correctly. i have pushed the bimmer several times, but the porsche is way more nervous and by far not as forgiving. in fact that car is like a lady. treat her good and she gives you the ride of your life. treat her wrong and bang you're out. she's fancy, smart, beautiful, has a wonderful voice and a shape of body that makes you whisper in her presence.....
well, the key thing to drive a 911 is knowing how to brake and when to brake. for starting never try breaking into the turn. you'll spin out quicker than you could imagine. in a turn, especially with higher speeds and less tight radius, don't step of the gaz. if you have to, very slow and prepare yourself for a loose rear end. i did it once too fast, almost at least. my co afterwards said he already saw us spinning. somehow i di not notice it that bad, i felt the tail getting light but not that bad. well he knows his car and when he says so, i was just lucky.

with the newer 911 that problem got more and more solved. the 964 still were "heckschleudern" while a 993 almost became unspinnable in normal conditions. todays 996 and upcoming 997 have all security features to keep everyone on track.

all in all, i will always go with a 993 c4 or 993 4s. sure, a turbo would be nice but me, as a realistic man [hihi], i know i might not be able to afford one.

frolf, you got a tissue for me please????

I REALLY dig the 911 Targa...that is such a great car....I love all Porsches. Today on campus, I parked in my normal spot, but I was right next to a 2003 Boxster !!! [:0] But the Boxster had an Autotragic transmission !! [:0] [?|]

Guys, don't give up hope, you could probably get a used 911 for the price of two 330i's, so don't buy a new bmw every year, cut back on junk food, electricity, water and you should be able to afford a 911 in no time! Just live of-off Kallog's frosted flakes for a while[thumb] [clap]

I already live off of Kellog's Frosted Flakes, I think I'll die in about three years or so, oh well. Anyways, it is pretty sad how people buy Porsches (or any fast car) and make them automatics. It nullifies the purpose of a sports car and makes it really boring to drive, I can't live with an automatic you have no control over the car and it hides about 30% of the engine's potential. Unless it's some special-high performance gearbox (like the SMG), I'm always going to try to stick to manuals.

I agree about the manual tranny. My dad however swears by the automatics - you see he is an avid soccer fan, and plays lots of soccer, he constantly gets injured, he ripped some muscles in his left leg a couple of times to the point he could hardly move it, thats the day he switched to automatic[rolleyes]

i used to drive a 914
LOL....I had a Euro Spec 914 2.0 while stationed in Italy, was fun to drive.....cheap to fix. Now, if I could find a 914-6, the 914 with a 911 engine in it.....pretty rare, my friend has a 944, always breaking.....not that quick, but not a turbo. Personally, I like the 928.....don't ask me why.[;)]

Hello!

I have been driving few times my friend's Supercharged 87 928 S4.

He designed his own manifold and fabricated most of the parts himself! It is in pretty good condition and still drives great.

Last Sunday we went to the Dyno and It was worth it. You can read more about this awsome car at this link: http://rennlist.com/

Enjoy[thumb]

BMWdude, my dad swears by automatics too but not because of ripped muscles or anything he just thinks that automatics are a progress over a manual and that anyone who drives manuals is resisting technology or some BS like that. I told him that I like manuals a lot more and he still gets on my ass for liking them, there are people that think they are allways right and try to prove everyone else wrong, that's my dad. I guess he hates manuals because one time he drove a manual Volvo for Morgan Stanley and the guys always wanted it to be silky smooth (so they can read a paper and drink coffe in the back seat), my dad did learn how to drive a manual so that you would think it's an automatic and that learning process probably swayed him completely toward automatics. Next time he gets on my ass again I'll tell him that the SMG is a big improvement in trannys and it's a manual. Enough of me mumbling about nothing, sorry but I just had to spill it all out.

I dont know if that's true for the new ones though, the engine is much lower and now they have some electronic stability program thats pretty much the same as the BMW and Mercedes'.

Does Porsche make diesel engines?

the original post was for p cars and the way they were meant to be driven

I usually turn off the stabil BS when I start my car... does not allow the rear to modulate

[driving]

The newer ones will also be a handful if you do not know what you are doing

At pocono there were a few 911 (reisentoter PCA) that spun in turn 5 coming out of the infield when they lifted off the gas ... brought the rear around too much and was facint trafic! SO you do need to know how to drive these beasts to their full potential ... or you will have problems.

These cars are easy to get out of control, but if you know how, you can correct that pretty easily... [burnout]

Every sports car is a handful if you don't know what you're doing. For the new Viper you have to take classes to learn how to drive it - with 500 lbs of torque, if you enter a turn and give a bit too much gas, it'll probably spin out.

that was a beautiful story Wadula. i think my next car is going to be either an E30 325iS, a WRX, or if i'm REALLLL fortunate, a 993. but i think this is about the millionth time i've metioned this, so i'll go back to my business paper

yeah but the porsche problem is not giving gas, but taking it away. that's what makes the car tricky. the viper might need classes due to power, the porsche needs class, not classes, for it's physics and the values behind it. a porsche might not be the fastest, most slickest, most cornering car with the best mpg ever and heck that is what it is about. that car has charm, a soul, a will. hell everybody can do weightlifting with the right training, but a porsche is like a gymnastics at the rings. heck you need the same power but ultimate control and feeling. a simple weighlifter will just rip the rings from the ceiling.

Dreaming is what gets you there. [thumb]
Personally, I think the Porsche 911 is the most perfect car I could ever want in the world. It looks amazing on the outside and it is just such a driver's car. I think the Porshe 911 Carrera 4S is that perfect car I've been looking for. [:)]
