What do you think?

I have never been a big fan of all-in-one desktops but I think I may get this one provided I don’t hear anything too negative before they ship.

Looks like it’s being offered for good price also. With upgraded memory the 20” is about $1800.00 after education discounts.

I've always been a Mac fan, having owned a Plus, SE, IIci, Powerbook 4500, and most recently a 15" Powerbook G4, and also an iPod. So of course I like it.

I read an article just this morning about it. The reviewer compared them to BMW by saying "A car is a car, but a BMW is a BMW." He went on to explain that just as BMW sells a premium brand on function and form, and then price, Apple markets the same way, so it shouldn't be compared to $1000 Windows PC.

I'm sure that will set off a bunch of howling here,,,,,,

I don't think Mac's are something I'll have to worry about in my future as long as I don't work for a k-12 school or an art center... but I've always thought there HAS to be a reason people turn to mac and love them so much.

I think for every day use to a normal persos, it doesn't really matter what you buy, especially since XP is a fairly stable operating system (I don't have problem!!)

i love my 5 year old mac... never gives me any problems... extremely easy to use (after 10 years on pc's)... all i ever use computers for nowadays is internet, basic office programs, and image editing anyways so it fits well...

I was checking out the G5 last night on the web. I like the photo's but what is it going to look like when the wires are included in the photos. Why did they hide the power cord? The bluetooth keyboard and mouse seem cool, and you can order 802.11g (took me 10 minutes to figure that out since they rename everything). It's just too expensive for what you get and software is more expensive later. I don't know.

There still way too expensive for me. If I had $1,800 to spend on a computer.... I could build a Windows PC myself. For that price it would probably be 2x as fast as the Mac. I spent less than $600 on parts for my PC; its faster than our family comptuer which we spent over $1,000 on! And there is WAY more software for Windows. (so basically i'm saying i'm NEVER going to buy a mac, or a new PC. I will always build my own.... unless it's a laptop)

I see what you are saying. Apple gets its speed from the “better” OS and task management so lower processor speed can actually result in much faster task processing.

Did I state this correctly? May need someone better versed in Macs to correct me if I didn’t get this right.

I will use mine primarily for DVD editing and general tasks. I won’t be able to run any of the accounting packages that I use but that’s okay with me.

I think the new iMac looks great (definitely better than the previous one that looked like a desk lamp!). It seems like a very powerful machine in a very attractive package and Apple's "premium" pricing has certainly gone down. But there is still no question about what you can get for the money. You can pay $1,800 for an iMac, but if you build yourself a PC you'll end up with a more powerful machine, no question about it. But in return, when it's time for you to get rid of that machine for a new one, if you list your PC on eBay you'll get shit for it whereas Apple computers have extremely strong resale value. So basically, Apple's premium comes back into your pocket when it comes time for selling it off.

OS X is definitely a solid operating system, but I don't think hard-core Windows users (such as myself) can appreciate everything it has to offer. I had a 600MHz iMac G3 for a while running OS X and I really didn't have a good time with it. OS X's taskbar seems disgustingly primitive compared to Windows XP and I always felt very "limited" by incompatibility and the things I can do on a machine. Basically, what makes me put Windows XP over OS X (in my mind) is that I can just chill with a Windows machine all day long, non-stop. On OS X, I just can't do that...I run out of things to do and the OS just doesn't "work" for me as fast as I would like it to (manipulating the taskbar, multi-tasking, etc.).

That being said, I do like what Apple has to offer and I'm actually in the market for a laptop and my #1 choice is the Apple iBook G4. It offers surprising bang for the buck (especially considering I'm going with the 12.1" screen which makes for a very light weight of 4.9lbs) and Apple is good at making laptops. I hear WAY too many Dell/Compaq/HP/Sony/etc. stories of people's laptops just dying on them and having to send them in for repairs. You never hear about Apple users having any problems. But as I already have a Windows desktop machine as my primary computer, the iBook will only serve as a secondary computer and for whenever we're traveling. Now I just gotta wait for my iPod and digital camera to sell on eBay, lol.

Elussive - you do have to remember, the average buyer of Dell/Compaq/ HP/Sony/etc. don't know a thing about computers!! I never had any non-warranty covered problems with my HP, and my dell so far is working 100%.. but I know how to keep a computer running in tip-top-shape.

Heres my take on Apple laptops... simplicity. No gay buttons to accidentally hit, no retarded features, just a nice sleek package. I had an iBook G4 and loved the thing to death, then I bought a G5.... oh yeah, the resale value is premo, I was able to get exactly what I paid for my ibook 3 months after getting it.
