It's not supposed to be a supercar, it's a pure-bred sportscar. The Elise was designed with twisties in mind, not the Autobahn. Being mid-engined and the extensive use of aluminum in the chassis give the Elise catlike nimbleness. It is no Lamborghini, I'll agree with that, it is a threat for cars such as the Boxter, Z4, Miata, and the like.
I agree, it is what sportscar (the original true-sense) it meant to be. Curves, curves, and more curves. HP/lb. is the main concept here not brute power and speed. AKA GT

the elise is an ultimate street machine.

the concept of light weight and absolut purism connected with the middle placed engine is exactly what makes that car great. it needs a knowing hand as that car is really sensible and a ricer will never stand a chance. not lookwise, performance wise, style wise or price wise. that car is a real purist. sure, it is love and hate thing, but that car is a astonishing driving machine.
AMEN! BINGO! Like the older ferrari's, jags, Lotus, etc...

as i said, that little beast is a blast. 325???? i saw an elise kill a 993 911 C4 on an innercity freeway back in my hometown. that was impressive...

there is nothing in it, but a person who buys it, doesn't need it anyway. most of them don't even want it. that car is build to drive. not to worship your balls.

I had a chance to do some laps at Road America in the company of this Elise:

It couldn't match the NSX on the straights, but it was very quick in the turns.

I like the Elise a lot. It must be a blast to drive.

brahtw8, I believe that statement. I don't think Push really understands the power and agility that car already possesses. You don’t need it to have 350hp and supercharged to make that car exciting. I like the Elise and agree it must be a blast to drive. [driving]

If you were to drop a huge engine in that car it would probably ruin it. Just like a bimmer. You have to take the added weight from a larger engine and take it out somewhere. That car definately does not have that many things that can just be taken out. Personally, I don't care for the design, but i can understand why you guys do. I just find it a little to excessive. Especially with the scoops everywhere. I guess I am just a little to simple. I liie the look of the Esprit. It is more benign. In my opinion, that it what makes it so sinister. Anyone can make a car that looks mean, but all the true performance car manufacturers just make their cars so bad ass, it doesn't have to look mean, because you know it's mean.

good word too. i think you are right, that it is not the look that makes the car so amazing and attractive but the performance and furthermore the purist concept. it is just a racers car.
