The Wrx is cool,

Small package, big performance..I would far rather see no big ass rear spoiler and no crazy hood scoop though.

Imagine a "normal looking" Suburu dusting 95% of the street cars....

Now that would be cool !, I guess you could take off the teenage looking rear-spoiler, but dont know if the hood scoop is functional and/or removable.

Otherwise I think the car is totally cool [thumb]

Better check out the Subie forums. They are launching an assault on the ten minute Pikes Peak record, have rallied for years with cars making 300-400 hp. depending upon the series, and these days a number of folks have modded their WRXs and STis to 400 hp and above.

Right now there are only two cars that are truly competing at Pikes peak The wrx/sti and the evo. My friends and I used to go up there all the time to watch the truck races when I lived in Colorado. Nothing better than watching a semi go barreling up a huge dirt hill!

Hmm that is intereasting, but my engine is still standard other than a lower compression and the supercharger oh yea and a BMC cone filter, but later mods include stronger pistons, conrods, new chip, crank and the rest, to allow for higher boost, so maybe it could get to about 360hp at the wheels at altitude, then if somebody still beats me ill put a 100 hp NOS kit on the car just for good measure. My next car is gonna be an E36 M3, with an E46 M5 V8 5 litre motor, pushing out 400 hp standard, throw in a supercharger at high boost it should get close to 500hp at the wheels at altitude, this will also have a 100 hp NOS kit. I dunno how fast this is going to be but it should be quicker than my 325i

Tell me about it, you must see this guy here in SA he took a E36 325i chucked everything out of it and made it a normally aspirated chevy 262 V6 that does the quarter mile in about 11 seconds. Now that is what I call crazy.

Oh, and yes, they could beat your bimmer. My friend only has 600 dollars invested and he runs a 13.4 Also, its not like there's about 8 million (obviously exaggerating) of these in the 12s...11s....10s...

Also, I can vouch for DSM's kicking ass. I have about 2500 dollars invested in my 2G, which you have to spend more on to make them faster anyway, and I run solid 12.6's all day long. My dad wishes his M5 was this fast. [thumb]

You can't go wrong with the subaru though...great cars!!!

This might sound like like a bashing question, but it's not. I'm curious about the 5 year durability of something like the stock WRX vs. a modded E30 or E36. How do the Japanese cars hold up at 300 - 400 + hp? My instinct would be that the modded BMW would hold up better than the WRX but I really don't know. I typically buy a more expensive car and keep it for a long time. Would the WRX hold up as well, or is the goal to have fun at a lower cost for a few years and fix it, or get rid of it before/when problems develop?

Any car you double hp on is going to have problems...some more than others...the cheaper the car the cheaper it is to replace the broken stuff

Japanese companies are notorious for over engineering some of their stuff for racing abuse....How many M3's are making 800whp on stock short blocks? There are quite a few Toyota Supra's doing it....

Its not the company which determines the strength in the parts its the design and intended purpose......civics compete in the N1 endurance races in Japan against various OEM's....minimal mods...naturally aspirated....9000+rpm on stock bottom ends for extended periods....needless to say how many M3 motors are spinning to 9500 on stock cranks and rods and for how long?

When you step into the racing world the marque pride gets thrown out the window and you focus on what parts break and what doesnt....the trend is Motorsports = Stronger parts

Honda is a racing marque so their performace minded cars tend to be incredibly reliable on the circuit and handle redline duty all day eveyday.....its the nature of the beast.

Take a dodge neon to redline every shift and see how long it lasts....rev to redline and dump the clutch and see if you have a bag of parts laying on the ground?

No car company is imune to parts failures because they all use the same process to build cars...some just use better materials and others engineer their stuff a little beefier...

eh, it doesnt matter to me anyway....i took a peek at the WRX's the other day, and they seem kinda cheesy.....cheap interior stuff, doors werent too solid, o-k seats.....all it really is, i believe, is a nice engine put into a somewhat appealing box. All of the commercials and stuff, Lance Armstrong, has just fueled the fire............dont get me wrong, they ARE fast, but you dont just buy a car to be fast....you know all the other stuff.

Anyway, i am looking at RX-8's now[thumb]

Do some more research on RX-8's before you seriously look at one. People that have them have been dynoing them at like 160 or so to the wheels!! Mazda vastly overrated the horsepower on these. Talk about a quality car.

A few people say that when buying a scoobie you have to be able to purchase it twice, (For the cost of repairs) i don't know if thats true if you maintain them well. as for speed any version other than the STi is a waste of time and money. they are cheap nasty interiors and (apart from the P1) inclediably ugly. up to 60Mph the Wrx will beat alot of cars but at 100Mph even my car starts to catch up!! bangs for bucks though there a pretty good buy. (but the nocelity WILL wear off!!)
