Got Into An Accident...

Hey,

So my friend who is home for the week-end (goes to college in Boston) came over today and we decided to go for a drive as he wanted to drive my car (Infiniti G35C 6MT for those of you who don't know). So he did his drive and then it was my turn and we were on some backroads. I was accelerating up this hill and it was a curvy road (25 zone, going about 30-35) and up ahead on the right was a dip in the road for one of those drainage vent things. Now being a car with stiff suspension, I hit the dip and it jolted me and I was in gear 1 and the jolt made my foot push down on the gas (I know it sounds so stupid, but this is honestly what happened). Now this instantaneous pedal to the metal made the back wheels spin and it put me sideways into like a power-slide. As soon as this started happening, I slammed on the brakes as hard as I could, but it was too late and I was well into a juicy slide and I had no control and it was the worst feeling in the world. So we slid completely and did a 180-degree turn and slid up onto the curb. As soon as it was over, I know there was damage. My friend and I were okay, but this guy who was outside across the street came running to us like a madman screaming "MOTHERF*CKERS!!" so I turned on the car, not knowing exactly what damage was done, and drove out of there. We drove for like a mile or two going 15mph and I know something was bad because all four tires were squealing and I had to keep the wheel turned to the right to keep it going straight. I would have stopped and approached the accident naturally, but that guy came running and scared the shit out of us, so we just bounced. Anyways, we found a spot to hide and we got out to look at the car, and I see that the bottom half of the left rear wheel is bent INWARDS!!!! Fortunately, we were not hurt and there was not much damage to the car. I looked under the car and the left rear axle was bent in (I guess it happened when it slammed up on the curb). So, I called up my mom and Infiniti Roadside Assistance. My mom showed up in a hot minute (I was only like a minute away from the house) and was really good about it but she saw I had everything under control and went back to the house (she had guests). A tow truck arrived in about 20 minutes after the phone call (impressively fast) and the guy was really nice, he helped me out real nice. I dropped my car off at my local Infiniti dealership and then went home (and here I am, typing this crap up). I am so so so depressed at what happened and at what I did. That was stupid of me to be in gear 1 going 30-35 because the car is REALLY raw in gear 1. My parents aren't too pissed, but I am sure they will be once the bill comes in. I really hope I have my car back ASAP, I was supposed to take it into NYC and I am missing it already. [V]
I think in the end, though, I have learned a really valuable lesson: people are assholes, and don't expect them to help you out when you need it the most (referring to the angry guy running at us after it all happened), and watch out for those drainage dips in the road.
I am really glad I am okay and so is my friend... I was apologizing to him like crazy because I shouldn't have been doing what I did (my speed was okay, my gear was just too low and I did not have the control required in that situation) but he was totally okay with it.
Thanks for letting me vent.

Man sorry to hear that, glad you and most of the car is okay! Yeah there's one of those drainage things near me, it dips down probably about 8 inches, it's like a roller coaster.

I hope something like that never happens to my car.. I always see it as perfect now and I am a preaty good driver so lets pray.. [pray]

And abought that lesson... I learn it everyday from the farting guy across the streat.

Sorry to hear that! There are always unbelieveable situations that pop up that could cause problems like this, even for the best of drivers. But as everyone said, At least you and your friend are OK.

Thanks for the support, friends, I really appreciate it. I just wish I could go back through time and just push the brakes right before it all happened. But the way I am looking at it is that if this didn't happen, only something worse would have happened. It kills me that my car had to go through this with only 2,350 miles on it but I guess these things just happen. I just hope they can repair my car as quickly and as easily (and as inexpensively [fake]) as possible.
But I must say, I am truly impressed with the way the car held up. My rims are clean, except for the scratches on the left rear rim, my tires are still perfect and in tact, and I drove it for about a mile or two with the messed up rear axle when that maniac started running after me. That guy was so pissed, but he shouldn't have been...my car was made to go fast, and sometimes shit happens.

The accident occured and I guess he saw/heard some of it or something. Lots of trees around, so he couldn't really see everything. I did not come close to hitting his curb or his driveway or anything like that, it was just an accident. But he came running at me like a maniac. I was going to sit tight and sort it all out reasonably, but came running like a maniac and you should have seen the look on his face. At that, I just started my car up, pulled back onto the road and drove away...I HOPE he didn't get a look at my license plate....but there are lots of skid marks all over the road since I was sliding and all.

The car is leased, so resale value doesn't matter to me. What matters to me is that I have damaged this car at such a young age (2,350 miles). I am also G35-less for at least a week, I guess. Man, you guys have no idea how much I love my car...or wait, you guys all love your car as well, so you do know. Right before I went for my stupid pleasure drive, I just cleaned up the wheels...and then I bring it back with the freaking left wheel bent inwards. I wish I could have taken pics for you guys to see and better relate to the misery I am in right now. [V]

beating the dead horse, but hte most imp thing is you and your buddy's fine. and the other thing is that the accident wasn't serious enough to inflate yer airbags. now that woudl've cost a pretty penny or a bunch.

it always sucks to have your baby get hurt, but at least it wasn't a purchase.. at least you won't be repeating the same thign again right? that's what's imp..

sucks to hear about what happenend, and hope things work out. keep us posted.

Thanks, Jae.
As far as resale value counts, I don't think this should affect it much at all. I mean, it's pretty hard to tell what's wrong. Hell, when I was driving away from that mad man and trying to find a hiding spot, I was on the street I live on (this all happened like 5 minutes from where I live) and there was this young attractive female jogging and she actually gave me a very nice smile...or maybe she was just smiling at the fact that was my car was driving all lop-sided, the tires were howling, my double-flashers were blinking, and that my left rear wheel is bent inwards. Anyways, like I said, the only damage done is that my left rear rim is scratched on the edges a bit (it should be able to be buffed out for about $100) and the left rear axle is shot...bent in. Hopefully, the axle itself can be replaced quickly and easily as it looked like about a 1-foot-long bar that was bolted on both sides. I don't know, I'm just being optimistic. I feel so bad right now that I don't have my car and it ruined my Saturday night. [V] [V] [V]
