I do not want to debate this marijuana thing its ignorrant, but you have to quit misquoting me, where did I say what you ask above? Reread your post where you ask this and you will find the answer to your own questions about why it should not be legalized.
Yes but one can choose to ignore other facts when it comes to a topic. I know what your argument is. It's not necessarily a harmful substance, not nearly as harmful as alcohol. It's a matter of using it in moderation as a responsible person. Of course people won't be responsible, but they aren't with the legal 'drugs' either.

A bigger problem than marijuana is the people getting their daily high using their prescription or medicare plans by faking pain or some kind of illness. I think that's as big if not a bigger cost to all of us than legalizing marijuana, taxing it, and controlling it like alcohol is controlled would be. If marijuana should be illegal, so should alcohol. The war against drugs has and always will be a loosing battle. Drugs are cheaper now-a-days than they were in the 60's, and it's much easier to get them too. Prisions are overfilled with sometimes non-violent inmates becuase of drug laws.

I'm not talking the hardcore turn-your-life-to-shit drugs, I believe they should be illegal becuase they not only hurt the users, but everyone around them.

btw I don't want It to seem like I'm arguing - I do agree with you - but i see it a slightly different way. That's all [cheers]

Marijuana is not a drug in which you develope a tolerance to, per say. Alcohol, for example, requires you to drink more and more each time to get drunk (assuming you drink often enough to maintain your tolerance). With marijuana, as your brain's THC receptors develop a "tolerance" to it, you get around that by smoking LESS. Weird, but true, I read it in an article once, if anyone needs an explanation, just let me know.

Personally, I do not care if marijuana is legalized or not, I just think cops should not be so strict about it. I am tired of hearing about people I know, spending the night in a police station just for having a gram or two of marijuana on them. Perhaps the way it works in parts of Canada is the way it should go; you're not allowed to purchase it, but you are allowed to smoke it.

Having marijuana illegal makes it very expensive and it actually stimulates the economy because of its inflated price and cash-only business. But if you legalize weed, the government could tax it quite a bit and that is some good revenue right there.

Essentially, there are two good sides to the "legalize weed" argument, but ultimately the US is too conservative (which isn't a bad thing) to make it legal. On a final note, coffee and cigarettes make people work harder; marijuana doesn't.

Big Daddy, as for the health effects of marijuana, there are a few things that are for certain: you are breathing in smoke, and from that alone, we know it's not good for you. Also, we know that marijuana is a bit hard on your immune system.

The government's new way of fighting the war on drugs is by attacking the companies who make the pipes, bongs, bowls, etc. The government shut down the popular brand name "Jerome Baker" and all this did was double the value of all the people who owned a Jerome Baker bong. And at the very least, a typical marijuana user will turn a piece of paper and some weed into a joint if he/she has to.

Unfortunately because of my Liver Transplant I can no longer imbibe in my favorite beverage. It really bugs me when I visit friends in Canada for a drive that I can't taste the local brew, CREEMORE SPRINGS, only partake of the aroma. They even did me one worse last October we went to a bar (all are non smoking in Ontario...GREAT!!) and the were drinking some rather nice brandy while I drank water.

Here is an article published in 1995:
http://www.pdxnorml.org/brain2.html

Checkout the section of the article "How to Stay High: Less is More." If you were a big smoker back in the day, you should have picked up on this. A few pot-smoking friends of mine have always told me this and I never believed them until I found this article which backs it up.
