I am looking to buy a roadster in several years. I have been watching this company (Factory Five Racing) for about 4 years. What do you guys think of these as compared to a Z4?

might be cheaper, but with the BMW, you get a warranty valid at dealerships all over the country and free maintenance for 4 years. Something to think about.

very impressive.... but better hope you dont get into a fender bender with it... you might not have a fender to protect you or the accident could easily total your investment. (might be an easy fix tho)
also, those are prices for the kit, they dont advertise turn key prices!
gotta have the drive line (10k), kit is 25k, then you have to get the rest of the interior and extras (10k), then put the damn thing together.... uhgg, you might as well but a Z4!

ok vlad, enough of the suspense ;)

It could be more reliable than the current BMWs about 7-10 years from now. It has a very spartan approach, almost no electronics to mess up except for the traction and engine management systems.

Yes, those cars are definitely in a different class than a Z4, which is both good and bad. There is no warranty per se, but they are much simpler than a Z4, mechanically and electrically. They fall in the same category as building a street rod. You provide your own warranty service. I'm toying with the idea of getting involved in SCCA SOLO racing, and the idea of doing that with a brand new Z4...?

Cobra 5.0L - 225 hp, 9.5 lbs/hp, 0-60 4.7 sec.
Z4 - 225 hp, 13.3 lbs/hp
M3 - 333 hp, 10.2 lbs/hp, 0-60 4.8 sec.
Cobra Big block - 450+ hp, 5 lbs/hp, 0-60 3.75 sec.

The Cobra has been tested in excess of 1G cornering, Z4 & M3 are less than 1G.

Don't know, gotta think about this one, but I have several years until I am ready to buy. Or maybe I should get a used 328i or Z3 for SCCA use that will be usable across several classifications. Any suggestions from you guys involved in SCCA? I'm thinking about SOLO I Trials and Hill Climbs.

No thanks on the Solstice. I had an '87 Pontiac Fiero GT, black over silver. Never caught fire, but it sure as heck did cook in the summer. However, the exhaust manifiold bolts snapped and were replaced under a recall. It was a fun car, but it had "many issues".
