It's bad enough the federal government has control over your land - but the local government? Aren't we giving the local government a little to much power? I know our mayor isn't educated enough to make decisions like that.

I assume you are talking about the Chicago Mayor Richard Daley? After this, there will be no stopping him from leveling the entire neighborhoods for the benefit of his political cronies.

Actually cities need to be able to force land sales for the sake of public improvements, so from that point it is okay. However, if appears that the supreme court is giving a quite a bit of power to the local government. The land owner needs to be able to appeal local decision to a federal court so they can protect themselves from self serving local officials.

They aren't using it for public improvements - they are using them for shopping malls and giving the land to private developers. That's what the big fuss is about.
