I'm going to holiday in Italy and France later this year, and will be driving from Tuscany to Paris with my wife over 3 weeks. I was wondering whether anyone who has travelled there before (or lives there) could suggest some great driving routes through Tuscany/Cinque Terre/Provence/Burgundy?

I'd also appreciate anyone who could point me in the direction of cheap car rental. I'd love to do the tour in a convertible Alfa, but not sure if I can afford it.

Don't rent in Italy if you can avoid it, It's too damn expensive!
The autoroute in France is a fabulous highway but you see more sites by driving on the smaller roadways.
If you enter France through Monaco you can drive the same roads as the F1 race on, even go around the hairpin at the casino and under the hotel through the tunnel. We did it in a convertible 911, what a blast!!!
We also love to go through the Como lake region of Italy, go over the alps into Switzerland at Simplon and enter France near Geneva.
Good luck and take lots of film for the camera as the scenery in the alps is incredible.

Thanks for the info. We are certainly seeing the expensive rental in Italy, but unfortunately I mightn't have a choice. We need to get from Tuscany to Paris, and I would like the freedom of a car...food for thought anway.

Thanks again.
