I watched the Speed Channel yesterday for the first time in my life and on Tuesday it looks like they are premiering a new show called "Tuner Transformation." It's sort of like Trading Spaces in that one guy just hands over his car and people go nuts with it, turning it into a racing machine. The car in the first show looks like a new VW Golf. The show comes on at 7 est.

On a side note, I saw the above commercial while watching the "Car and Track top 5 cars of 2004." To qualify, the cars needed to be brand new or redesigned for 2004, so the nominees were: Subaru Impreza WRX STI, BMW 530i, Porsche 911 GTS, Mazda RX8, and some other car. The show mainly consisted of people driving around the cars with Jay Leno telling bad jokes. I'm hoping this Tuner Transformation thing will be pretty good.

I watched the Discovery Channel's version of the Tuner show. Basically took two ricers, had them go to a famous tuner shop to get fixed up in 36 hours, and then raced each other. More about drama than the cars. The girl (one of the racers) provided most of it. At first, you think she's a cool girl cuz she likes to do her own wrenching. Then, as teh show goes on, she's just about the most stupid girl I've ever seen. Like a feminist's nightmare come true.

Yeah I watched that show too. I was disappointed that it was more about the drama then the cars. And christ was that girl annoying. So was Dr. Charles, apparently a famous tuner who at one point in the show slams his fist against his chest, makes a peace sign, and says "Honda for Life." Then he insults Mitsubishi for having lots of smaller parts in their engine, claiming that "if this was a Honda, there would only be like 5 parts." Shut up.

And the predictable final race was on an eighth mile course rather than a quarter. What's the deal with that?

Oh yea I saw that show too, man she was annoying! Arrgh, just thinking about it annoys me! I get easily agitated by watching ricer TV.[8]

As for the 1/8th mile thing, WTF is up with that?!?! Can they not finish the quarter mile? How about some curves for a change too![thumb]

I thought it was kinda funny how the guy (driving a '90 eagle talon with a 75 shot nos) blew an axle during the race.

The girl finished like a second behind him but if they had raced the quarter instead of an eighth she probably would have won.

Just saw Tuner Transformation - it was disappointing. They had a vw golf in the commercial but they actually 'transformed' a 2004 mazda rx8. All they did was give it tires that were 1 inch bigger, cross-drilled brakes, a nos kit, and a stupid body sticker. Definetely a show to pass on.
