Anyone have this phone? pros/cons ???

I'm seriously thinking about picking it up today. It's got allot of cool features and is top rated by cnet.com . Anyone have experience with it?

I have it. Here is a half-assed review off the top of my head.

Pros:
The phone is hot, its phycially attractive.
The features are unrivaled for the price (up to 760 contacts can be stored)
No antenna (if you phone spends a lot of time in your pocket, antennas break fast)
GSM (its a new phone on the gsm network, lots of gsm goodies, and the US's gsm network is getting better by the day)
The screen - 65000 color screen, totally sick. the screen is the best i've ever seen on something as main stream as the T616
Battery life is good
Voice activated dialing, answering, and busy signal (i use these while driving with spirit and while at the soccer dome (phone in pocket, ear piece in ear))

Cons-
Memory is segmented. Picture memory will become full, and game memory will be almost empty, same goes with text messages and so on
Screen smudges easy (but is quick to clean)
Internet service on the phone has two ways of activation, most are easy to "bump" and if you are me you don't want to pay for internet service you never use, so i am always acidentlaly logging on (of note, i am not charged just for loading my home page, but i just don't like the service to be so easily reached)
Two tone - i wish it were a solid color, so i guess i should get a new case.

Well... I just picked it up![:D]

Tom,

I'll play around with it for the next week or so and give you the full report. Though I can already tell you from the few minutes experience I have with it, that everything frolf said is absolutely true! This thing is bad ass! It's setup very much like a PC desktop and is very easy to use. Lots of fun options and customizations.

My only complaint is that they were out of most of the accessories. It's cool though, I'll just get that stuff online. The bluetooth accessories are really cool too.

Here's a r/c car that's controlled by the phone.

Of corse there are other useful bluetooth accessories, like the wireless earbud frolf was talking about.... but that r/c car is just so james bond I HAD to mention it!

Anyway... Tomorrow I'll REALLY go through this thing.[^]

I have heard many complaints on the screen of that phone. 2 weeks after it came out Sony announced that it would come out with a de bugged version in January. Basicly, most of the problems with your phone will be fixed with the new model out in a few weeks. Notably the screen is supposed to be signifigantly better, many also like the new key arrangement which are bigger. While you may not care to change your phone, you likely can still return your phone for the new one. You can find some good info here: http://www.powerpage.org/cgi-bin/WebObjects/powerpage.woa/wa/story?newsID=11624 Its also on Sony Errisson's website.

Heres a pic of the new model (T630)

The T630 isn't the same phone. The T616 IS the debugged version of the T610.[;)]

wait a little bit longer the T630 will come out, I've read the reviews on the T616 and one of the biggest downers is that the color screen gets washed out in the sunlight real bad. The T630 supposely has a better color screen, plus it has an even more cooler white modern look to it.

I dunno about you guys, but when I personally look for a phone, I look for the thinnest, lightest, and basically the most compact cell phone my provider (Verizon Wireless) carries. During the summer, when I am limited to carrying my keys, cell phone, and wallet all in the pockets that my pants have to offer (rather than large jacket pockets), I prefer the items to be as compact and light as possible so that they are comfortable and don't create those weird bulges in the pants. You guys know what I'm talking about or I'm just crazy.

Anyway, here's a pic I took of my dog last night. The light was fairly low.

the screen does get washed out in the sunlight very easily, that is true. i like it, but i'l have to look at the 630, that thing looks pretty hot.

for me in a phone i look for how hot it is, and features.

.... just took this one of my friend here at the office.[thumb]

I'm happy with the picture quality.... afterall, it's a damn phone! lol, anyway if I want really hi-rez pics I'll use my digi cam. This is more of a convience camera for me.

So far Tom... I'm giving it a 10/10. As for the sunlight issue that was spoken of earlier, I havn't experienced it. I was out today with it in the sun and had NO problems seeing the display.

This could easily be the best phone I've ever owned.[^]

no no, the t616 is not an improved model, it is simply the model for a certain service provider.

If I am correct t610 is for t mobile and the t616 is for att and cingular. Look it up, but I am absolutly positive they are the exact same phone.

The t630 will have the exact same feature list except improved. It added some program to help make picture messaging easyer and the display. The display is supposed to be excelent, one of the best in a cell phone, call it sony's way of saying sorry for being so cheep on the t610 and t616. Plus I just like the looks of the t630 better.

But depending on the price you payed for your phone, it may come out more expensive as during the holidays the rebates on the phones are better thain they are now. Unless it comes more thain $100 to return your phone and get the new one I highly suggest getting it. My sis had an old LG that the screen would be washed out and it drove her nuts, when she got her new Sayno it was the difference between night and day...literaly.

I'll take your word for it. I really do like this Sony Ericsson T616, it looks really sweet. I would definitely get it in a heartbeat if stupid Verizon Wireless would actually support it. It seems like Verizon TRIES to give its customers the worst phones in the world...HELLO VERIZON, NOT EVERYBODY CARES FOR FLIP PHONES !!! [?|]
