George Phillips of Meridian, Mississippi was going up to bed when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window.

George opened the back door to go turn off the light, but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things. He phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your house?" and he said "no". Then they said that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock his door and an officer would be along when available.
George said, "Okay," hung up, counted to 30, and phoned the police again.

"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people in my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now cause I've just shot them all." Then he hung up.

Within five minutes three police cars, an Armed Response unit, and an ambulance showed up at the Phillips residence and caught the burglars red-handed.

One of the Policemen said to George: "I thought you said that you'd shot them!"

George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"

Haha, funny but sadly true.

Someone I know was in a bar that was held up. Immedately after they robbers left, they called the police, and told them which way the robbers drove off. When the police were told that the robbers left, they said they would be along in an hour or so. When an officer showed up, he told them if he had gotten there sooner, he might have caught them!

The "shed burglars" is a true story, unfortunately the caller could be charged with filing a false report. I was very proud of the response times of the agency that I worked for for 22 years. Our average was less than three minutes on all calls, leven ess on emergencies!

I'm not sure what their response times are like out here, but we have 4 cops for the borough (which is like 10 square miles at the most), then another 8 cars for the township.

"Unfortunately," our crime rate is really low, so all they do are speeding tickets!!

Believe me you'd rather have that than a higher crime rate. I know it sucks to get a citation, but the emotional and psychological impact of being a victim of burglary, robbery, etc. is devestating and it too costs you in higher insurance premiums.
