Growing up we've always had a fake Christmas tree at my house, so this year I figure what the hell, I went out and purchased a real tree for the first time.

So now I'm curious what type of trees do you guys have at home?

Fake, though most people can't tell right off.
I could tell instantly if im in the room. its the smell of pine alougth fake trees do look real, theres something about coming down the stairs every morning and smell the pine that really puts you in a good mood for work. and of course watching my cats try and climb it only to get stuck at the top LOL.

I'm in the Insurance Restoration/Reconstruction business and every year I see what real Xmas trees do to homes when they catch fire. I wouldn't bring a live cut tree into my home , ever. The thing is, there are Tree farms and they grow, harvest, and freeze dry these trees and then sell then months after they are harvested. Now they are so dry and dead they won't even except water when watered. This elevates the danger. I'm sure all of you have seen a pine tree burn at a bonfire. Well think of that in your home. Even if you were standing there with a fire exstinguiser, you wouldn't be able to put it out. I've seen the devistation live trees have done, and it just isn't worth the risk from my point of view.

Regards

Not with the pine scented candles and air fresheners my wife puts out you couldn't. I was away from home one year when she set it up and when I returned and walked in the door I asked why she went out and bought a tree when we had the fake one? It is a pretty darn good imposter. (I admit that long ago, after my parents bought a foil tree, I swore I'd never own a fake)

I'm in claims.
I really like the smell of a real tree and I grew up haveing real trees. But as an adult, I've found that artificial trees are easier to dela with and less expensive in the long run. We have a 10' artificial tree in the formal living room and a 7' artificial in the family room (that the kids can decorate however they want.) Up till 2 years ago, we still bought a live tree for the kids and part of the fun was going to a tree farm and picking it out and cutting it down. But the kids have sort of outgrown that.

Dammit i knew you would have somthing like that [:D], What is it with women and scented candles at christmas. i mean they smell great and i stink all year so why oh why does she only put them out at christmas.[:D]

zaxford can you say BAH HUMBUG??? [;)]

anyway maybe thats how your real trees are bought, however my trees are grown in the forest 2miles from my house. i go up there say to the guy i want that one he cuts it down we give him £20 and go home and decorate it. great fun!![:D] its actually alive (because be put it in water with additives) so doesn't drop needles and smells fresh until we take it down.

Live tree. Pennsylvania is a big grower of live trees for shipment to NYC, Baltimore, Washington, etc. and we have a gazillion tree farms in our area.

I grew up in an old house with 12 foot ceilings and we always had a tall live tree. I wanted to continue that tradition with my family so when I built my house I planned a family room that has a 14' vaulted ceiling. My trees are usually in the 11' - 12' range.

I grew up with only real trees, but for the last 5 or so years I have had a fake tree. I said I would never have a fake tree but I think this is the only way to go for me. It is so easy. Plus, you can include a whole bunch of other stuff around the tree and house and I have not noticed and less festive spirit.

And you can put it up earlier (we usually set up just before thanksgiving) and not have to worry about watering it. Yes you can't beat that real tree smell, but a fake tree is so much easier to deal with.
