I'm thinking of getting a passport escort 8500 but I'm having trouble visualizing how it looks installed. The kit includes two suction cups for windshield mounting. Are there other effective ways to mount this system. Photo's would be a big help
thanks

Hmmm, coulden't find any pics but i have some ideas that could be helpful. There are ushually brackets that allow you to mount the detecter under, or on top of the dash. Those two places and the windshield are the only ones that seem reasonable.

Oh man, I used to have pictures of my hard-wired Passport 8500 in my Jetta. Oh well, I guess I deleted them when I got rid of the Jetta because I hated that car so much. Anyways, mounting the Passport 8500, you should mount it on the windshield, so that it has a clear view of the road in front and behind and to the sides. The best place to mount it is above or below the rear-view mirror so it's not really in your way. And rather than plugging it into your cigarette outlet, you can hard-wire it to your car. Personally, I hard-wired my Passport 8500 to my sunroof motor and that worked well...the wire was pretty much out of sight and it didn't take up my power outlet. You can pickup Passport 8500's hard-wire kit for $10 + shipping form Escort's accessories store (online web site).

Thanks for the comments. It seems pretty clear that the passport 8500 is the best, but I was surfing around and saw something about them comming out with a new model at the end of January. It's supposed to defeat pulse radar. Anyway, I was wondering how the suction cups held, but I guess they do a good job of securing the system.

I set mine up so the suction cups are aligned slightly above the rear view mirror so the body of the detector rests on the mirror. Takes a bit of weight off the suction cups and helps them hold better. Just make sure the area where you attach the suction cups is very clean.
