Ok so for my entrepreneurship class at Cornell I’m on a team developing a new type of device that could be considered a hybrid pda/laptop/tablet pc. In order for us to effectively design the device, we need to get a better understanding of the market and what features should/not be included in the device.

If you can take a few minutes and fill out our marketing survey <http://www.cilon.com/survey/> that would be much appreciated! And who knows, if all goes well, this product may actually be developed and if it is, I’ll be sure to let you all in on the details and special discounts. Thanks!

I'm absolutly serious, I bought a POS Sony laptop with a crappy video card, I'm kicking myself for getting it. I mean why do these things have to be so business oriented, there is a large market of gamers that has yet to be tapped. Okay I'll be quiet, hehe[hihi]

Gaming, multimedia, WIRELESS INTERNET, etc.

Screen that rivals laptops (more than 65k colors), lithium ion battery and BACKUP/SPARE lithium ion battery...that would be oh so cool.

epj3 ... what you have described doesn't even meet the bare minimum for what we plan on incorparting (especially considering a 3 year delay before manufacturing, optimisitically).

But yeah, I hear ya! Thanks all!

Done and done. That would be neat if you could put all my textbooms on something like that. Sure would make walking across campus easier. I know you might not know this, but I'll ask it anyways: do you think that the textbooks you could download for it would be any cheaper than regular textbooks? I hate having to fork out $500 ever semester for new books. Sucj a rip.

Actually yes skandalous, text books would be cheaper. Since they wouldn't have to actually print the textbooks, we figure they would be almost 50% cheaper, maybe even more.

As a little bummer note for those of you thinking, security features would make it nearly impossible to copy textbooks from one device to the other. Being incorporated into the device from the hardware side, a bummer for us students, a plus for the publishers.

sorry, i couldnt get half way through, too redundant.

i own a PDA phone (Kyocera 7ksomething) and it does all i could ask for. its expandable, i check my email, keep hundreds of tel numbers, connects my laptop to the internet via wireless (56k connection baby!), play games, access ANY diagnostic imaging equipment in ANY given hospital for service, remote access to my computer at home, plot area maps with the gps attatchment, read adobe docs & ms word docs, ....and i write db programs to keep track of anything i could imagine.

yes, its nice to have certain things behind one single door, but i like my magazines! i like scribbling notes in my 150 page electronics books! things will progress as time and demand wishes. let it take me where it may.

Yes things will progress and this is where they are going :) If you don't believe, talk to me in 5 years, but I do certainly agree with you, let things progress. And that is what we are doing, letting them progressing, but giving them that little revolutionary step they need to progress further.

For me I would be happy to get a really nice PDA/Tablet if it had a decent AMP in it! I've tried out lots of different PDAs but even the most expensive ones SUCK at music. I'd rather have one good PDA than have to carry around an MP3 player, but not one of them is loud enough. I'm talking like 1980's Sony walkman loud.

Also, it's important to be able to have good SDKs for all the programmers out there so we can have a bunch of great free programs to use. Direct integration to Windows is also good. Using programs to transfer information sucks. It's a lot nicer when you plug it into the USB 2.0 or Firewire ports and it just shows up as an extra drive. As far as memory goes I say stick to PCMCIA ATA HDDs that can also be adapted for Compact flash. Of course for bigger devices you can just use a hard drive, but for the smaller onces nothing beats a CF card. All the new standards suck, especially Sony memory sticks and Secure Digital cards.

There are lots of other things too but I'm sure you've already got most of the covered.

Yup, those are great ideas. Still in the planning stages so if there other technological things you think would work, I'm open to all suggestions, good and bad :D Thanks all!
