I think I'm gonna make the switch to Apple. The wife and I are thinking of getting an iMac G5 20inch. Our only computer right now is the laptop I'm using right now. Want a desktop since it's got a lot more storage, screen size, power, etc. Plus, the Mac looks really cool.

So, what websites do you guys go to to check our reviews of hardware, accessories, software, etc? Places for advice? Places to download software (even freeware)? TIA.

Don't do it dude. I bought the iBook over a year ago or something and it is a great laptop, especially for the money, but you just can't do shit on Macs. Compatibility is really annoying too (since everyone else uses Windows). I sold my iBook and purchased a Compaq laptop from Best Buy recently and it's just so good to be on Windows 100% (I always had and still do have my desktop PC w/Windows for regular use).

I've been a Mac user since 1998, love them. I bought a powerbook at the beginning of the year and it's replaced my tower almost completely. If you're looking for a deal check the Apple website 'store' page, down at the bottom right is a red 'sale' tag. That takes you to the refurbished area. Don't be afraid to buy refurbished from Apple. The basically gut the machines, clean the case and put in brand new internals. Most are refurbished demos from the stores. They carry the same warrantee as new and are eligible for apple care. I've bought a couple of refurbished G5's and a refurbished 30" display, absolutely no problems and I saved about 30%.

The other 'unofficial' site is www.smalldog.com. Also, check www.dealmac.com for deals on accessories.

Macworld is in January and they usually have web specials during the show. They also announce new models, making the 'old' ones even cheaper. I'd wait until then to buy anything.
