Hi all.
Just making a general comment; been in Detroit for over two weeks now and I have to say that it is quite a rarity to see a BMW or any foreign car for that matter. Almost made me want to purchase a 70's muscle car. Detroit is not as bad as everyone said. It's actually much more beautiful than all the suggestions and biases; and food and rent is cheaper than MD!! Much cheaper. Dozen eggs for 28cents!!! And gas is cheaper than in MD...would have thought that would be the other way around.

If I had to make a complaint it's that the night life is too...alive. lol. waayy too much going on. Too many people spending their discretionary income waay to quickly...no surprise Detroit financial situation is as bleak as it is.

But all in all, a Great city...still miss home though. [:(]

But in MD you're 3 hours from NYC, less than an hour from washington, not far from a beach, not more than 2 hours to philly and no more than 4 hours to pittsburg.

sorry dude I like the east coast more, oh yea no rust problems on our cars [rofl]

glad you like it though!! Mrferg (look him up) lives around there somewhere.

Hahaha whenever I go to the autoshow I take 96 East from Ann Arbor. It is quite beautiful, burnt out dilapidated brick houses, tons of graffiti, and rusted out Olds Deltas and Chevy Caprices, yeaaaaa beautiful. [:p]

I agree; I love the east coast much more; besides it's my home. But I'm just saying it's not as bad as I thought.

I'm living in downtown detroit...Lainsing is a good long distance away. I heard that once you get out of Detroit you see many more foreign luxury cars; haven't ventured out that far yet.

And Mrferg,

I've seen some of those 'rusted caprices' drag race with 2004 corvettes and pretty much hold their own, if not pull away. They may look like a bucket of nuts, but some nuts they are. At the very least it's funny to see a mid 80's Caprice with 24 inch rims with a ground clearance that puts Excursions to shame with the occupants bouncing in the car to the tunes on the crystal clear sound system.

Haven't seen 1 M3 yet. Sniff, sniff.

Sounds pretty cool, I'm glad you're enjoying Detroit and not hating it. So what's the deal, you talked about the night life; are you working hard or hardly working?

Rest assure Emile, I'm working hard.

My apartment complex is located right in the heart of downtown, (a block a way from the school) and unfortunately right next to four bars. One of them is named the "Zoo Bar." This bar seems to be one that attracts cars that look like they've been on "pimp my ride." And the noise or music from the bar and the vehicle's of their patrons rattles my window on the 19th floor. So, unfortunately, at two in morning I am able to see what's going on, and once I did venture outside just to look at the cars.

Yea maybe one in 100 Caprices in Detroit is modified under the hood. The rest have 26 inch 80 spoke gold plated "rims" and a 2 bajillion watt unnecessarily loud sound system thumping Beyonce, and that's IT. If they sound powerful it's probably because the exhaust system rusted out and fell off, while they were making monthly payments on the rest of that shit which happens to cost 4 to 5 times more then the car.

hey Sean, what brought you to the D? for grad school?

if you even venture up to somerset mall, or birmingham your current opinion will be shattered. i suppose comepared to other cities there will be less imports, but there are plenty rolling around the burbs.

belated welcome to the town. well at least you'll be here for the superbowl right?

What brought me to the "D" for grad school? I call it fate, my father calls it something else. Actually it's really just by happenstance; I got rejected from all the schools I wanted to attend. I received a letter in the mail from U of Detroit and it said to apply (this was when I was still on the waiting list for two of my choices; so I applied just in case, but didn't take it seriously). I applied, got accepted, then got rejected from other schools. So I drove here and found it was a pretty good school and I kind enticed by the city. I lived in Baltimore city for 21 years so I am very used to, and taken in by large cities with their "issues". Detroit is no exception; this city definitely needs a lot of work. I also characterized B'more as 3.0CSL that needs to be restored and loved. Detroit, to me seems more like a mid 80 M6 that needs a full overhaul. Maybe my analogies are way off whatever.

Being her for the super bowl is a good thing?!? Ok. Maybe if I had tickets.

Average Jae,

if you're ever in the Downtown area let me know; I barely know anyone around here, and sometimes studying gets to be extremely tedious. I live right on Brush street.

And if you know, what is up with the "Zoo Bar"? Is it famous?

Bingo!

Although you left out the fact that the 26 inch rims that are non 80 Spoke usually are 26 inch rim spinners.

And the modded engine-caprices are usually much less...tacky in looks.

Maybe Average Jae or Mr Ferg can answer this for me...

what is up with the Lions? furthermore what is up with Lion's fans? I was watching them play the bills at a bar and the fans were cheering when one of bills was injured.
