Im so happy, I am now the proud owner of a red '99 Mercury Cougar V6. While it is not the BMW I was hoping for, I was able to get it for $8750 fully loaded with only 11k miles on it. The price was a little high but it was due to the low milage.

Actualy my Grandpa found it, he was the one looking mostly. He buys and sells used cars for extra spending $$$, so he has loads of connections and found out about this one before anyone else. Unfornatily I had to have him get it without me looking at it first, hopefuly I will like it. I will probably get it this Saturday.

Anyone know much about this car? All I have seen is pictures, below is one I found on Edmunds.com

Congrats. When it came out, it was a pretty sharp looking car. Unfortunately, like the BMW coupes, it seems it's turned into a girl's car. Don't expect to win any street races with it. Just enjoy driving it like I enjoy my slow, but beautiful looking car.

I never noticed it until you mentioned it, but the rear does look like the Mitsubishi Eclipse.

I saw two today on the road, both women dirveing them [:(]

I like the back the way it is but I was thinking about chainging the hood and fenders with the ones pictured below. Do you like? BTW the hood is carbon fiber.

No no, I don't like that hood. They actually have some decent body kits for the Cougar. Just look a little more. Try Wings West or something like that. Don't turn it into a BMW, that's jsut super ricer.

coyotefreek, congrats on the new car. Post up some pics of the car when you get it. [thumb]
The Mercury Cougar was a sharp-looking car when it first came out and I am sure you are going to enjoy it. A good part about it is that it has lots of tuning options, so definitely look into that.

lol I was kidding on the fendors.

but what dont you like about the hood, there are 3 choices of the same style: Fiberglass, Fiberglass with carbon insert, and full carbon fiber. Other thain that not many places make a replacment hood with a scoop.

I have always been weary about body kits, dont want to make the car to close to the ground. Also never found one I thought added much.

I generaly don't like hood scoops unless they're there to provide air to something. I'm more of a functional accessory guy. Kinda like a giant spoiler on the back of a front wheel drive car. That's just retarded. You lose traction that way and speed (cuz the wing's so heavy and creates so much drag).

Ford made the Cougar as a Civic figher. THe aftermarket really embraced it for a while. They got superchargers, body kits, suspension... everything for that car. I'd go with some rims and suspension before shelling out for a carbon fiber hood. If you're worried about it being too low, just get some rims. It takes away the wheel gap and shouldn't make it too hard to park, etc. What color is it? Tint can make a car look good and since you're in SoCal, it'll help with the heat.

Its red, looks like new. Well I already have the rims picked out, that was a given that I would get them. I still like the hood, here are a few pics of the hood and those crazy Z3 fendors.
