Joie Chitwood (I spelled it wrong above) was a race driver turned stunt driver in the 40s and 50s, "The Joie Chitwood Thrill Show". His son took over at some point. I remember seeing them as a kid in the late '60s. They used to drive cars around on two wheels, jump them over ramps, etc. It was a huge attraction for county fairs, race weekends, etc. They were the inspiration for Evil Knievel's stunts. Chitwood's grandson now manages the Indy Speedway.
"On May 13, 1978, Joie Chitwood set a world record when he drove a Chevy Chevette for 5.6 miles on just 2 wheels."
I guess you have to be an old fart to know these guys - I'm sure Dan remembers them. They used to be on ABC Wide World of Sports a few times a year.
