Hmm, that might be a project for my friends and I next summer. Hell, we've already built a nitrogen power golfball cannon with a range of 2+ miles and an attempted, but failed, trebuchet (mostly failed b/c we didn't have any more money left after the cannon).
Trebuchets are way cool. Have you heard of the Pumpkin Chuckin Contest held in Delaware each year? My friends and I have talked about building a device for that contest.
I've built some goofy stuff for the heck of it, or for odd ball customers of our company (process controls automation):
- Computer controlled beer tap that tilted the cup, opened the tap, straightened the cup, closed the tap for our company open house
- Computer controlled hydraulic platform to shake a Halloween ride haywagon
- Various animatronic halloween props to scare the kids that come at halloween
- Laser gun shooting gallery, similar to a Laser Tag system
I also formed a team to submit an entry video for Junk Yard Wars but we didn't get selected
This kind of stuff keeps me from getting bored.
