I think it is photoshopped. It is supposed to be a photo of the tsunami hitting Phuket, Thailand. But I think it is a fake. God I sure hope it is a fake.

Pretty cool looking nonetheless.

I'm only guessing, but I think it's shopped. I thought I heard the biggest surge was around 30 feet? That looks like 10 or 12 stories high compared to the buildings.

Gotta be a fake. The water is rushing over the road, yet there's a monstrous wave right behind it. In order to construct a wave that tall, there would have to be very little water at the shoreline - the tide would have retreated majorly. It certainly wouldn't have been rushing over the road while a 10+ story wave was building right behind it.

I was told it wasn't really even a wave at all....more just a sudden increase in water volume. It was explained like bath tub filling up....suddenly

Yeah, the waves apparently hit in very different ways depending on the ocean floor leading up to land. The navy claims Diego Garcia "wasn't affected"...many speculate they may be understating the damage to such an important base...that's where the largest ships dock in the indian ocean...and that's where planes take off for iraq and afgahnastan...that's where they have some taliban prisoners....but apparently some islands really didn't have more than a couple inches of surge if the ocean floor jotted up steeply instead of a long slow incline. There was a great article on this in the New York Times...can't find it now. Regardless, 10-12 stories high is ridiculous.
