We just all got our ibooks last night... and I hate macs even more. Im not going to start the Windows vs. Mac thing again, one thing that really pisses me off thoug is all ther "effects", how they i minimizes is way over animated, everything is all 3D and flashy... they spend a bit too much time on the looks and not enough on the software. Either way, do any of you know any sites with Mac software thats not made by Apple? I looked for some but couldn't find any decent ones. Thanks.

Hey Guessgirl, I'm an avid mac user and have been all my life. The animations and flashy silliness can easilly be toned down or even off. The Over-animated minimize is known as the "genie effect" and can be turned off. A lot of people scoff at Jaguar for being too cartoonish. I find it a lot easier on the eyes than Windows. the ibook screens are far more advanced than most notebooks as well. In anycase There are several websites you can browse with mac crap. www.macmall.com, www.macosxapps.com to name a few. What were you looking for? Bare with your macs they're not so bad.

GuessGirl96 - I had a few macs and I have hated them all - That's why I'm sticking with PC. However, can't you get a distro of linux for your ibook? I know there are versions of Linux for macs, not sure if the ibooks are different though. Either way, there is a HUGE variety of programs avaliable for Linux so I would definitly recomend looking into that...

I actually wanted to try Linux, as for as I know it's very similar to Windows but "open ended", that you can custmize it any way you want even more than windows. There the school computers and they'll see that when they so their check in a couple months, theres also some software on ther4e that we need for math clas that they paid for, so I can't just download it, but I know you can have two OS's, anyone here know how to do that, or if it's hard?

There is no question that windows 2000 pro is the best Microsoft OS. XP is just bloated and full of shit you don't need.

BTW, Guessgirl, there are lots of different flavors of linux. Some are user friendly and can be customized to resemble explorer but many are command line driven or have a very different GUI than explorer. However, no matter what you choose Im sure it's better than finder, if thats what macs still use :-/

I like XP better, you can get rid of all the blouting stuff, but I think 2000 and XP are very similar, mostly the interface thats diffrent but how it works seems to be pretty much the same. I only used 2000 for a week though so I might be wrong.

Yes, they still use the finder... [rolleyes]

I'm going to look at diffrent versions of Linux, I think I'll get Red Hat though as it seems to be most popular. Most people use it so I'm guessing it has to be somewhat decent

I used Linux for a while, but I was unhappy with it. I used Red Hat Linux and Linux-Mandrake. My best advice is to stay with Windows XP. Linux is not always up to date with hardware support, it can be too technical for some people, and the software available is not as solid as Windows software. Before, people were just "safe" with Windows. Now with Windows XP, we have a "safe" OS that is stable and decently quick.
As for Linux, as I said before, it is a technical OS and hardware support is not always up-to-date, but if you can get it work fine on your PC, it is a powerful OS. [:)]

Trust me... she will never love it. People who like performance, mods, and have spirit of theose **happy** civic drivers are those who use windows... MACS is just... umm.. a Lincoln.
