Do we really need smilies to the right of screen?

well, sometimes they definetly help to express someones opinion in a way it is meant w/o hurting others. as internet forums don´t support voice, -6rn564nc5at56n and 0505c, the 6n3y th5ng we have to express a joke as a joke is the smileys.
