Did you find Bush's speech persuasive?

You know, as much as I like to read and hear what peoples' stand is on politics, I wouldn't mind seeing an end to threads that deal with politics. I am tired of people bashing politicians because they don't agree with their take on things sometimes. There are ups and downs to every person on this planet, everyone won't be pleased with every decision that has to be made in this world.
I am constantly hearing people talk about how Bush should focus on the things here in our own country rather than major wars overseas. The only thing I have to say to people, is that he isn't ignoring our problems, he does have a big role to play, as any person would in his position. For the last several presidents I can think of major errors each one encountered. It doesn't accomplish anything to raise hell over problems, if its really that bad, the nation would realize it and he/she would be impeached. If there is a problem you see, DO something about it. Don't just sit on your butt and bash the person, it only causes quarrels between different opinions.
I was talking to a guy I know, and he was telling me about this book he is reading. It's basically an anti-Bush book. People are acting like he is the worst person in the world. He isn't, I can think of way worse, ie Hitler, Saddam, murderers, stealers, rapists, perverts, and the occasional idiot. See? Every person has a desire to do the best they can, whether its enough for America or not, no person can decide...there is always room for improvement.
People also talk about politicians' ambitions. For example, everyone says Bush went to war for oil. Do you know him personally? Have you had this conversation? Do you read his journal? TELL ME! Give me a fact of why this rumor is true. People only start rumors, then the media gets a hold of it...now EVERYONE is repeating this rumor.
I don't intend to start another argument, but I just wanted to present my opinion. I think if you see room for improvement in the government, get with a party and get yourself on the ballot. Otherwise, just shut up. Its ok to discuss issues, but quit trying to chip away at a mans integrity, its wrong.

i'm going to agree with most of that, and say that you can't really waltz your way into presidency. our country elected him, and if you don't like it, dont' elect him again, but if he wins the election....

Did I tell you about this board? Do you drive a new M3 and have a vacation home in So. Cal? We have reservations at the same resort this weekend??? Those who dislike Bush will not be swayed from his speech.
He essentially said we are not going to surrender, and will
stay until the job is done.
Some may see this as the 'same old thing' but accomplishing an objective
never gets 'old' to me.
In general, I'm amazed at the amount of vitriol directed towards GWB.
Statements such as "Bush's war" drive me up the wall.
America's war started on September 11th, 2001.
Today we again have a war of ideologies, similar to the Cold War; which
ended with the demise of the Soviet Union due to relentless American
pressure and the lives of tens of thousands of American soldiers.
The ideology today is not communism, but in many ways a more dangerous
ideology -- political islam. Communism could be 'contained' because the
Soviets were marginally rational, and chose life over death.
Those who seek to implement 'sharia' -- islamic law -- across the globe
are not rational, and will detonate a nuclear device on an American city
at their first opportunity.
The US response to such an event would be unimaginable.
These are serious times. These are the stakes. The petty partisanship
we have witnessed in the past year or so is a total disgrace.

frolf, I'd say this election is one of the most important in over 50 years.
Please -- make sure you are registered, make sure you vote in November.
Politics is about getting things done. Vote for who you think will

I am still on the Totota or Honda or Toyota or Honda or Toyota or Honda thing, they are just too close except the Toyota has the curtain airbags all around but is harder to find a good selection. I still cant believe I am buying a van but the space is hard to beat. Talk to you tomorrow.

generally agreed, when people hate just to hate, or for bs reasons it gets our society no where. i'm not saying that kerry supporters are all full of sh!t, cause they aren't. but a lot of people i have come across simply say they hate bush so much, and can't go any deeper.
i think people my age have a lot of issues with respect. well, more so with just using their effing heads. and big issues with figuring out where their feet touch the ground. but oh well, i guess thats part of growing up?

I do not think that we in America are showing disrespect because we do not agree with the decisions or actions of our President and then choose to voice our opinions. This country came to exist for such reasons, such as being able to voice opinons whether it be conforming or not. I do not believe that we are teaching our children disrespect in that regard, but that one can think for oneself and need not be afraid of persecution.

Disagreeing with someone's leadership or ways or views...is of course very normal and acceptable. Being able to voice out opinions openly is a civilized privilege.
But putting your President down publicly in the eyes of the world, especially during times like this, when all eyes are on America....that is not just disrespect, but also showing the world how "united" we are.
