there were three options, 1) he'd stop, NOT! 2) Doing 100 mph in a Suburban he'd run out of gas soon, or 3) he'd crash...and I'll take option #3! It was nice of him to turn on the emergency flashers when he crashed..haha. I have no sympathy for the fleeing.

I can't tell if you know this and were joking around or not but emergency flashers automatically turn on when most cars sense wrecks.

that was some serious off-roading... nuts!

I was joking, but must admit that after 22 years as a major accident investigator I never saw one car where the flashers came on automatically in a carsh. Is this some new invention? Do you have any information on it I would love to read about it.

That all started about a mile from my house and then the crash ended up about 2 miles from my house. It all started when he killed his ex-wife, who had a restraining order on him, and her friend who was standing there with him. Crazy stuff, be careful out there!

I know that the newer BMWs do it - they turn on the flashers and the interior lights when a crash is detected or when the airbags deploy. I think it's a pretty common feature in the industry now.

If you watch the video frame by frame, you can see the Suburban's airbag deploy and then the flashers come on shortly after that. I guess they could have been turned on by the computer after the airbags deployed, or maybe the hazard light switch on the top of the steering column just got tripped when the airbag deployed.

near the bottom impact sensors

at the bottom

and from my buddy's personal experience in his '94 325i, while driving around a bend on a highway at a normal speed his tire blew out, he slid off the road and hit a median sidways spun some more etc... looked down and his doors clicked, and his 4-way flashers were on.

pretty neat stuff.

I knew you were kidding about the rest of your post but wasn't sure if you knew about the auto-flashers

No I did not know about the auto flashers. When my daughter totalled my 97 Z3 2.8 the falshers did not deploy, nor did the air bags. BMW was never able to explain why and I cannot discuss it, gag gag....

I can't believe that that accident didn't deploy the airbags. Hmmm.....
No kidding, that statement really holds true when you see the rear end. The rear looks even worst....

The angels were looking over her that day Dan. She is blessed....

I believe E36 and newer automatically turns on 4-ways. Obviously something was wrong with the car big daddy - though it was off set and doesn't look TOO bad from that angle (unless she rolled it over). Still - no excuse that they didn't go off, especially if it was bad enough that she got hurt.

I know the audi's 4 ways turned on automatically that caused my accident.

Ah big daddy - i see the entire car is smashed up, even the rear. If that didn't set off the airbag then I'm not sure why I have one... i have a good 2 more feet of sheet metal in front of me on my car.

Here is a shot of the rear end. It was never explained to us why the airbags never deployed, flashers never activated and the ASC never engaged? I wish I could tell you more. Thanks for the positive comments, it still hurts at times but my daughter is 99% recovered, married and very very happy! [rofl]

big dan, i think you can actually sue them for malfunctioning airbags. my friend's sister got in a huge crash in her 91 nissan maxima w/ airbags never deploying. i think she settled out of court or something.

the cops weren't even really chasing him, and when was it ever a good idea to drive really fast in a honkin SUV? and always buckle up! [:p]
