My daughter headed off to college last week. Freshmen initially were not allowed to have cars on campus. However, due to a new construction project being completed, they opened a lot for freshman parking. She came home Saturday and drove the 325i back to campus.
She drove home today with a smashed right rear quarter window (the little fixed triangular window). As best we can tell, somebody punched it, not sure if it was vandalism or attempted theft. Nothing was visible in the car at all. She knows there was a Rugby team party nearby and that they are apparently notorious for causing trouble on campus. I'm thinking it was a "watch me" show off prank.
She reported it to the campus security. It happened Saturday night between 1:30 AM when she parked it and Sunday 10:00 AM. Campus security told her they were expecting mischief, it was a holiday weekend, and the school just opened a brand new $5M artificial turf stadium so they thought someone might try some sort of prank there. They said they were patroling heavily and they were surprised they didn't catch the vandalism.
The ironic thing is that when she parked the car, she and a friend saw a kitten in the road. They tried to catch it and it ran under another car in the same parking lot. They were trying to get the kitten from under the car, and within 30 seconds a campus police car pulled up and started questioning them, thinking THEY were vandalising or breaking into a car!
So I guess my comprehensive will cover it, but I think my deductible is $100, probably not much more than that to fix it....
