Also, SUVs are the most stollen cars in U.S.

They should steal & burn those Hummers ans SUVs ... all of them, for the damage they are doing to the environment. Those damn capatalism-driven ego maniacs who buy a car as huge as an elephant and think they are GODS... they should all be jailed! [mad]

So was burning all those H2's helping the enviroment? I guess I do not understand all these "Protest" groups and their warped ideas.
In the long run... I think so.

However, I think the best thing people can do for the environment is not burn stuff but rather spend the energy on developing an alternative source of evergy used for cars...

BTW if they are going to do it to SUV's, they should do it to minivans, sports cars, and super huge luxary cars becuase they all harm the environment. If you are going to be a tree f----er, get rid of your 1968 VW bus that burns a quart of oil every 400 miles, because you're not helping the environment either.

Why cant they afford a newer more economic car? Becuase they are too busy, not making money, hugging tree's!!

I dont like suv's MOSTLY becuase of the drivers attitudes and becuase it bugs me to see a person driving an suv that is three to five times bigger than what they need. I HATE seeing HUGE SUV's that have no trailer hitch, 3 rows of seats, and a mom driving 2 kids around. They could do that PERFECTLY well in something like a honda civic!! I bet out of all the suv buyers around, less than 1% use them for their intended purposes -- offroad.

around here they are either lowered...with huge wheels..wheres the purpose? or raised beyond belief, so if they did go off-road they would flip over it already looks like they will driving through neighborhoods.

Oh, give it a rest. SUV's are bad on gas, big deal...they're not as bad as people say they are and all the good ones are Low Emissions Vehicles so it doesn't really make a difference. Plus, the M3 only gets 16mpg city, which isn't too impressive either.
SUV's are big and cool, and a great-looking alternative to the traditional mini-van.

You are very terribily wrong. The energy wasted building them, heating and lighting the plant, the fuel used to make all the parts, the energy used by the workers getting to and from work, not to mention the toxins released into the air due to the fire, then the entire cycle again when they make more because some tree huggin punks haven't got a clue. Sure they are big and get poor gas mileage, what do you think my 750il gets? Destruction is not the answer, not of someone else's property, and by the way who do you think the insurance company is going to pawn off the increase cost to? Yep all of us who have to buy it.

Friggin environmentalists

Big Daddy, you called it across the board. The people who perpetrate this crap(ELF) who also burned the condo construction site in San Diego CA are the same people who used to call themselves EARTH FIRST. They are college educated, but they don't have the balls or the intelligence to make changes in a way that would help the situation that they're protesting. I met some of these "activists' in the mid '80s ,and they were a bunch of skinny, malnourished vegans who were sent to a liberal college like Berkley where they were brainwashed to hate America, people who worked hard to become successfull, and most of all their parents for being part of the "system" that earned the money that sent them to school in the first place. They drive old volvos with "globe" stickers and "Be kind to animals, Don't eat them" . I'm sure that by now they are probably more savy by driving more undercover cars like newer corrollas--but I bet one could still pick them out in a crowd. Apparently PETA is alleged to be funding them as well. Hey pushakov, if you think all those big suv's should be burned, where should it stop? Help me to understand how terrorist activities like these help their cause in any way. I'm as much into environmentalism as most folks, but be clear-these people are not environmentalists as much as they are frustrated aging college students who have too much time on their hands and think they are helping something-I don't know what though.

I agree with you 100%. I do think these companies do need to start making their cars a little more economic, like GM with the V8 engines that can shut off 2 cylinders. But I can not stand tree huggers, die hard vegetarians, or anything of the like. It almost makes you wander if they are so jealious of someone's success, that they go and vandalize cars like crack whores in the cities.

yes, I do get kind of mad when I see someone driving an escalade when they would be MORE than alright with a sedan of some sort that gets better mpg, but I dont have the time or will to protest like that. I REALLY hope these people are fined for it.

Another thing i dont get about people who are protesting animal rights. It seems to be that cows are the biggest target of their protest. I seem to remember reading that cows are Literally too stupid to live on their own, without humans. I think a good idication that we were ment to eat meat is our teeth, our digestive system, and the fact that we have always been "Hunters"

Oh well, if i ever catch a protester near my car or house...well, lets just say my reaction wont be a calm one.

I just got home a few minutes ago. While driving on the road (on my way home), a big yellow H2 decided to pull out from a side street while I was approaching. The H2 started pulling out but then saw me and slammed on the brakes, but it was kinda late for that. Seeing all this, I swerved around the H2 like a pimp and saved my own ass. Then we got to a red light and the yellow H2 was right behind me. When the light turned green, I was very tempted to lay down some Michelin rubber expressing my disapproval on the H2's poor move, but I gotta respect that darn break-in period....................
Hit 600 miles this evening and to celebrate, I punched it twice in first gear....man, what a rush. [:D]

Comments frim an SUV owner....

OK - a few comments from someone who owns an SUV. I have a '95 Suburban. Why?

1. I tow a 3500 lb. boat 6 to 8 times a year, wife, 2 kids, dog, luggage. Can't do it with anything less. Should the environmentalists be able to dictate my recreational travel? I can't do these trips in the 330cic!

2. Since it seats 7, I frequently am "designated driver". By driving the 'burban and picking up friends, 2 other cars of friends are being left at their homes, saving gas, pollution and creating less traffic.

3. Why 4wd if I never drive offroad?
- 2 years ago we had a 23" snow storm in the area. My wife, a doctor, drove 30 miles in the snow storm (8" to 12" mostly unplowed at that point) to get to the hospital. The 'burban laughed at it - TRY THAT in your 330xi or Subaru Forrester with 7" of ground clearance. Doctors, nurses, etc. who lived 5 miles from the hospital couldn't get there. Suppose you got your hand caught in a snow blower, and no emergency workers had SUVs to get to their jobs?

- boat ramps (sometimes sand or mud) get slippery. More than once I have needed 4wd to get the boat out of the water.

I ride a motorcycle that gets 35 - 40 mpg. Is that justification for me to torch all cars that get less than 35 mpg or all vehicles with more than 2 tires?

What about the tens of thousands of handicapped people who have converted vans/SUVs allowing them to load a wheelchair? Can't do that with a regular car.

My point is that MANY SUV drivers have legitimate reasons and uses that may not be evident when you see them on the road. I agree that there are many CLUELESS Expedition/Suburban drving soccer moms that should be driving Volvo XC70 wagons. But, just as BMW drivers are sometimes wrongly stereotyped, the same goes for SUV drivers. In any event, there is no justifiable reason to destroy someone else's property based on narrow minded, self-serving beliefs.
