What is the difference between DVD+R and DVD-R discs and should I care when buying blanks?
I want to burn my mini DV tapes to disc for back-up and hope this medium lasts a few years longer.

- and + are two different formats. + discs tend to be more expensive I believe. Your burner has to be able to burn both to use both. Otherwise, you're gonna have to buy whichever one your burner uses. Stupid Dell shipped a + only DVD burner for me. Lots of other companies ship burners that do both.

the newest burners support both + and - format. if you are only using it to back up data, using either one will work.

one of hte bigger issues is stand alone dvd player compatability. older dvd players may only play the minus format..

i think technically the plus format is better? it'll support true 8x burn, where as minus is only at 4x.

but in your case, either one should be ok.
